African Horse Safari Association

The African Horse Safari Association was formed in 1994. By choosing a safari with one of their member companies, you will be riding with some of the most experienced guides and operators in the horse safari field in Africa, whose depth of knowledge of their respective environments will enhance your African safari experience.

We bring you a selection of AHSA horse safaris:

Equus Horse Safaris - South Africa The Waterberg Mountains - one of South Africa's least explored wilderness areas and habitat to many of Africa's major mammals and over 280 bird species. Rising gently to the peaks and spectacular views of its southern escarpment lies Equus Reserve, 952 hectares (nearly 2400 acres) of unspoilt mountain wilderness.

This is home to Equus Horse Safaris. Formed in 1989, we are the longest established horse safari specialists in South Africa. We offer our guests an informative, private and unique bush experience on horseback where attention is paid not only to the mammals, but also to all aspects of the local ecology.

Nyika Horse Safaris - Malawi Big skies open country and vast panoramas combine to make the Nyika the most perfect riding country. For day after day you can explore the remotest regions of this 3000 sq. km wilderness. Follow Elephant trails down secluded steep sided valleys, trot with the herds of Eland, Roan, and Zebra, canter the edge of 1500 ft high escarpments and gallop across the rolling hills of the plateau. On the Nyika you are riding on top of the world.

Offbeat Safaris - Kenya We operate riding and landrover safaris from our luxury mobile tented camps in remote areas of Kenya. All supported by lorry. Riding safaris always have landrovers along for game drives. Landrover safaris encourage walking conducted with an armed guide.

Our home and headquarters are at Deloraine in the Rift Valley near Nakuru. This old colonial house was built in 1920 by Lord Francis Scott, a predominent early settler. All our safari guests stay here at some stage during the trip. There are lovely rides on the surrounding 5000 acre farm, the gardens are themselves worth the visit. There are several interesting day trips to the flamingo lakes of Bogoria and Nakuru which are within easy reach by vehicle.

Okavango Horse Safaris - Botswana Okavango is a vast inland delta, one of Southern Africa's most enigmatic river systems, lying like an emerald jewel on the edge of the great Kalahari desert, an astonishing maze of papyrus lined waterways, meadows and woodland rich in birdlife and game.On horseback you can venture further into the delta and get closer to the wildlife than you can on foot. Imagine yourself mounted high above the long grass and reeds watching great herds of zebra, wildebeest and lechwe as they move across golden floodplains and the breathtaking excitement when your silent progress along game trails used only by the animals brings you upon a herd of buffalo or a family group of elephant.
